What is the pattern like? Is it black and white and on several pages or color coded and on just one page?

Hello! I'm new to online cross stitch shopping and I was looking for a recommendation on pattern brands/companies. I've been cross stitching until now using old patterns purchased from my local used bookstore. Now that the bookstore closed, I have no source for new patterns and I thought I'd try online. But it seems like a lot of brands are just taking photographs and using computer software to make a pattern with just cross-stitch, no other stitches. They do look like complicated patterns, but I'm not sure how they turn out. Does anyone feel like they're missing detail by not having back stitches for outlining or knots for a little texture? I hesitate to try this "pointillist style". Anyways, can anyone recommend a company that does advanced patterns? Anything similar to the Dimmensions gold kits would be great. Thanks for your help!
